It was the slickest operation I’d ever seen.
All the local Democrats called our county heath departments, and they put our names on a list.
People over 65 and the compromised came first. The National Guard would come to town and set up mass clinics in churches and schools.
A d let’s say you were a Republican and were ashamed to let your friends know you had a shot. They could drive to doctor’s offices in other counties so their MAGA friends wouldn’t know, which I thought was really neat.
Then there were mass vaccination events where we finally got a text, and we had to be at a huge auditorium where there were 1,000 chairs.
They’d vax 2,000 people an hour for days on end.
Three weeks later we went back for shot number two.
We’ve had three boosters since.
In our little county we all know each other.
56 of my Republican friends died dead, from Covid.
The last one was a guy my age who once belonged to the Christian Church. He knew better, but he chose not to get his shots.
None of us Democrats admitted ever getting Covid, though surely some did. But zero died of Covid. We were all vaccinated and boosted.
The vaccination rate for our county was 36% and 20% of us are Democrats.
All the dead Republicans were unvaccinated.
